INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Chris and I am currently a Computer Science: Cybersecurity major at the University of Maryland. Within the University, I am a part of the Media, Self, and Society Scholars program. I am very interested in computer networks and their operations and I look forward to working in the internetworking field. As a fun/interesting fact, I write everything in cursive!

BACKGROUND

Throughout my high school career, I had the opportunity to engage in the Cisco Networking Academy. It has allowed me to progress my knowledge of the field as well as obtain certifications within internetworking. These certifications- the Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)- have propelled my appearance towards possible employers and solidified my expertise. They allowed me to obtain a head start, as the covered courses were college-level and many older people were trying for the same certifications. Obtaining these coming out of high school has made me very marketable. I also had the opportunity to become a computer intern for my senior year of high school, providing me with a brief experience of how those in the field operate.

INTERESTS

In my free time, I enjoy talking and hanging out with my friends in person and over video chat, playing video games, and exercising. Baseball and basketball are my favorite sports, but football is also enjoyable. I am also a massive music-head, and greatly enjoy all types/genres of music. I believe that there is a song that you would potentially like in any genre. I've learned how to play the trumpet, and I would like to also learn the saxophone and piano/keyboard.

MEDIA INTERESTS

As I am in Computer Science, I have a fairly close relationship with the many media within the technological landscape. I am quite interested in the power and influence that various media have over social and cultural developments. I also wanted to eventually expand/improve my video editing skills. I would also like to know:

  • What was the first greatly impactful form of media?

  • What would've happened if the Internet was never conceived?

  • Would it be possible for the Internet and other modern forms of media to ever fall out of favor?
